Week 5- Science and reason- Video art by Pipilotti Rist

Still from 'Ever is Over All' (1997)

1. Define the 17th century 'Scientific Revolution', and say how it changed European thought and world view.

During the 16th-17th centurieds ,it brought many kinds of scientific  fundamental change in the ways Europeans viewed the natural world. Also , this petiod led to discovery of new plants and animals  and devleoped science , and there was also a new interest in physic and astronomy.
those of scientific revolution influenced to European's views and thinking as their experience of other life from  indicidual life. so after 17th centuries Europe developed in many field such as painting, sculpture and architecture .

2. Give examples of how we can we still see evidence of the 'Scientific Revolution' in the world today.

The scientific revolution , it has been given to us many things like we can easily to find information from internet and we can experienced as many as we can . Also , thesedays , the humans living life was been longer than before because of  some of sicence field developed  in nowadays so those of things can see the evidence of the scientific revolution in the world i think.

Research Pipilotti Rist's video installations to answer the following;

3. From your research, do you think that the contemporary art world values art work
that uses new media/technology over traditional media?

In my opnion, both of method can help artist working and nowadays there are new media and technologys came up for us and technologys also can be ues by new tools for making work more easily.
And then,  those of new things can help us more eaily to show their thinking or ideas ,also in case of media , it is really can create many difierence style of work such as film or vedio(moving images ). i think as science is getting develop those of technology or media will be more devolop and can help to us many thing more than traditional media.

4. How has Pipilotti Rist used new media/technology to enhance the audience's experience of her work.

Her artworks are different to the other artist's works. She tell the audiences what she wants to tell them by using images and videos not like drawing pictures as other artists. Therefore she tells the main idea of her works are gender, sexuality, and humans.. Also her works gives a lot of different feelings and thinkings to the viwers.

5. Comment on how the installation, sound and scale of 'Ever is Over All' (1997) could impact on the audience's experience of the work.

As we can see her working , 'Ever is Over All'<1997> it used to two side of moving images first one
showed the one women who smashed cars and breaked windows with a big hammer while other sides showed little bit natural things like flowers and grass ,and trees . Also , there are some sound but it is very slow and little bit quite and i think it is really difference between smashed window and the music .when i saw
the video i realized the hammer looks similar with the flowers colour and shape . i think those of device like sound and two side of image could be lots of things impact on the viewers. Lastly , the left one side image stay like horizontlity and other one is verticality so that it could be seen 3D .

6. Comment on the notion of 'reason' within the content of the video. Is the woman's behaviour reasonable or unreasonable?

i dont think there is no choice , and i cant chose between resonable and unreasonable because there is no fact why she was doing that and why the artist show to us the flowers so i cant juged  her behaviour.

7. Comment on your 'reading' (understanding) of the work by discussion the aesthetic (look), experience and the ideologies (ideas, theories) of the work.

personally, i think, when i saw her working i can gives us many ideas and showe to us exactly what she want to tell us . and we have to think seriouly when we see her work .however, otherwise, her working is little bit
difficult to deal with  so sometimes when i reaserched her work , 'what she want to tell us ?' so many times
but definitly her working is creative and there are some impact which i can explain .
