week 9-modernism and post modernism.

Both Claude Monet and Chuck Close were exploring paint, colour and human perception.
Research the work of both artists in order to

1. Outline the intentions of each artist.
*Claude Monet
Claude Monet has since become one of the best known artists in history and one of the French impressionist painters during his life. I think, he was very fascinated with colour and light so his intentions were to more focus on the light and colour as we can see his working.
All workings were very lighter than other artist so he might want to say how to use the colour and landscape.

*Chuck Close
He really wants to show to a view that is realistic. As we can see his working, every single work was extremely focused on the realistic by using the photograph and paint. Also, he used to works on people as portrait style as personally.

2. Describe the techniques of each artist.
Firstly, as the founder of impressionism, he had a unique style and approach to painting. Although his paintings and techniques do not seem too radical nowadays, when he painted them, they caused uproar in the art world. Personally, he usually used oil and when he drew the landscape I can easily to see his mark of paint brush and there was no sharp image. Also, he usually used to light bright colour with no black.
Second, the technique of Chuck Close working that he used oil and photography also more focus on realistic without his own opinion. Moreover, he is one of the hyperrealism artists in America. After he started using wheelchair, his working style was changed as cross stripes. It looks like a spot description painting but he really tried to draw as real portrait.

3. Find 2 quotes about each artists work, and reference them correctly.

The landscape seen from the point of Monet was bluish in color and a fantastic sight. It was one of the great gifts of Monet that he was not only able to recognize such beauty but also able to depict it with such accuracy.”  BY rembrandtreproduction on December 3, 2010

4. Note 3 similarities of the work of both artists.
There are some similarities between two artists. First thing is both of them focus on realistic, Monet could appear variable at any given moment, producing many surprising interpretations of the common matter. Secondly, they usually used bright colour that means their working are very colorful style. Lastly, they really want to draw as real subject matter instead when we see their working it really smooth and there is no sharp side.

5. What are some differences between the artist’s work. (at least 3)
-Chuck Close is more focusing on the realistic as he drew self portrait and people’s face (concentrate on human) while Claude Monet drew more natural things like landscape and garden with flowers, and sunset. Personally, that’s why Close is more modernism artist among these two artist.
-While Monet painted scense of contemporary life his focus was more on capturing the atmosphere rather than creating an accurate record of his subject matter. However, Close ,he used totally different style like cross stripes.
-lastly, I think , the painting which is from Monet was more feel warm during the watching his working rather than Close’s painting because of most of Close’s working are looks like real or photography.

6. Describe your response to the work of both artists.
I think , Chuck Close’s method of painting is always indexical and a mosaical and very colourful style also I really want to learn those style because as I think that his skill is one of the most special method. Otherwise, Claude Monet, during I researched his working , I really feel comfortable and warm. Moreover, in my opinion, he developed his technique and his painting of light through travel to find new motifs with interesting effect to paint. The reason why I think like these , his painting shows to us many different place.

7.Add any other comments you would like.
Both of artist is the most attractive artist in the world for me. Especially, Claude Monet was my role model when I was a young and want to become an artist (fine art).
The paintings of Claude Monet are some of the most recognized and well loved works of art across the world.

  1. Claude Monet is a great french artist, he does show the points of lightness and darkness in his paintings through the different technique that he uses. Chuck close uses more of a different technique where he paints portraits to make it look like the effect of looking through glass and is blurry when your are looking at it up close but when you look at it from a far distance, a clear portrait will be clearly visible. I think it's great that Claude Monet was your role model in the area of fine art, as for me i am more interested in Chuck close's works, because it is a very different way of painting compared to my style and i am very interested in him because of that fact that he does have a disability with his wrist but is still able to create such wonderful paitings.

  3. You have made some good points about the similarities and differences between Claude Monet and Chuck Close's artworks, they both do use bright colours, but in some of Claude Monet's paintings he uses a more restricted colour pallete while eliminating black, while as Close uses a wider range of colours. Monet colour pallete changes through several of his works, but focuses more on organic colours.
I also agree on the point you made about the difference in subject matter, Chuck Close does focus more human faces while as Claude Monet focuses more on nature, yet both artist's have the same idea of painting realistic in a more semi abstract way.
I also find it interesting how you mentioned that there is a moisacal style of painting as I never thought of that before. Monet's works do give off a warm and comforting vibe and the image you have shown by Monet is a good example of a piece of work that can be a form of interactive art as it sends out a calming vibe for its viewers.

  4. Claude Monet loves to paint landscape and he bright colours as well but not as bright as Chunk Close's artworks.I do agree with you that Chunk Close focus on a realistic things but he used a different techique from Claude like how he makes his works looked blurry just like looking through the glass. His work show a sign of modernity, bright and intestering. However Chunk Close's work seems somehow like a graphic work and a little of abstract feel.On the other hand Monet's work give me a feeling of tranquil and warm when I look at it.The scene of the natural landscape and with the organic colours that he used ,make the artworks look even more perfect and realistic.I do agree with you that Monet does really good technique in painting and the way he paint is very interesting and especially how he blended the movement of light and colour smoothly without using black.
